Every spring American Shad make their way up the Kennebec River and stay in the area for about a month. At times the fishing can be very fast-paced and we target them with fly rods and light spin tackle (essentially the same gear we use for trout). These hard fighting fish are around 16"-25+". The section of river that I fish is only about 1.25 miles long. We motor up stream and work our way back, fishing all of the water where they hold. If the the timing is right, striped bass may be available to catch as well. ​

Great trip for beginner fly fishers, kids, and anyone looking to get an arm workout! Generally a half day is all you need.
